'IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY'

Why Kuya Germs remained a loyal Kapuso through the years

For years, iconic television host Kuya Germs would joke that GMA stood for "German Moreno and Associates."

It was easy for viewers to believe that to be true. With his shows from "That's Entertainment" to "GMA Super Show" to "Master Showman" among other programs, Kuya Germs has remained a Kapuso through and through.

So why did the Master Showman, who passed away on Friday, remain with the network through the years?

"It's not because of money," he said in an interview with Nelson Canlas last year, shortly after returning to television after a stroke rendered him out of commission.

"If you want to prove something na yung magagawa mo sa istasyon."

In a 2009 interview with Sandra Aguinaldo on i-Witness, Kuya Germs detailed how the network has given him every opportunity to do what he loves.

"Alam mo, talagang pinaubaya sa akin ng GMA eh, na bahala ka, gawin mo kung anong gusto mong gawin kahit na nag-aabono ako. Ginagawa kong patunayan sa kanila, ipakita na kakayanin ko ito," he said.

In his tearful return from his stroke, he took time to thank viewers of GMA-7 for all their support.

"Ang aking minamahal na Kapuso at mga viewers na talaga mula noon, hanggang ngayon: I love you all! Thank you!" he said. —JST, GMA News
