Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza respond to social media bashers: “Let’s wipe away the dirt, wipe away the hate”

More than a year since their pairing rose to fame, Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, collectively known as AlDub, have learned how to deal with their popularity—as well as their online haters.

They do it the AlDub way: by laughing off netizens’ criticisms against them.

In a recent interview, the Eat Bulaga stars were asked to react to some of the negative feedback about them online.

“Alam mo kasi, hindi ko naman talaga gustong maging artista eh,” Maine said when she came across a tweet questioning how she became a celebrity “with a face full of pimples.” She added jokingly, “Kasi alam mo, hindi pang-artista yung beauty ko eh, pang-beauty queen.”

Alden, on the other hand, kept things light by bringing in a dose of kilig when a netizen likened his face to a baby’s bottom that just took a poop. He responded to the tweet by asking Maine to verify how his face smells—only to lean in for a kiss, but to no avail. Alden asked instead, “Amoy pupu?” To which Maine answered, “Amoy papa!”

The love team addressed their haters in a video for Master Oil Control Deep Cleanser and Eskinol Classic White Facial Deep Cleanser, which both of them are using. After reading mean tweets about them, Maine told their bashers, “Pasensiya na, ganito talaga kami. Pero we love you pa rin.”

The pair also compared online hate to facial impurities, in which they believe everyone can “wipe away,” just like what both Master and Eskinol do with dirt and pimples.

The video ends with Alden and Maine asking the online community to “wipe away the dirt, wipe away the hate” to end rampant bullying online—not just against celebrities, but also against everyone else.
