Alden Richards surprises former teachers with free breakfast

Alden Richards made a homecoming like no other.

In celebration of McDonald’s Good Neighbor’s Day, the Kapuso actor visited Dela Paz Elementary School and his former school, Colegio de Sta. Rosa de Lima, in Laguna to pay tribute to his former teachers by bringing them free breakfast sandwiches.

Good Neighbor’s Day, an extension of McDonald’s National Breakfast Day last March 13, 2017, is the fast food chain’s way of bringing breakfast meals to early risers—those who are unable to enjoy a good breakfast because they are up early to serve other people. McDonald’s celebrates this in different communities to give early morning workers their dose of good morning vibes too.

McDonald’s chose to honor teachers in this year’s celebration of Good Neighbor’s Day because of their sacrifices—especially every morning—just to come to class prepared for their students.

Apart from Alden’s surprise treat, McDonald’s also gave 50,000 Burgerdesal sandwiches to teachers around the country.

Luzviminda Santiago, a teacher at Makati High School , had one of the best mornings of her teaching career as she was greeted not just with a free breakfast—but also by a reunion of her former students who showed appreciation for her hard work.

The surprise came at the right time, since Santiago, who has been teaching for 30 years, is set to retire soon. “Mami-miss ko talaga,” Santiago says about teaching. “Ang pagtuturo, nandoon ang fulfillment, alam mong may role kang nagawa para sa [mga estudyante].”
