Cinemalaya Best Film winner ‘Respeto’ gets nationwide release

The beats will hit theaters on September 20!

The "Respeto" team, led by director Treb Monteras II and screenwriter Njel De Mesa, on Wednesday announced via Facebook that the film is getting a nationwide release.

"Respeto" bagged multiple awards at the 13th Cinemalaya Film Festival, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Audience Choice.

The Cinema Evaluation Board has given the movie an A rating.

In addition to the critical praise, the film also sent social media abuzz with its fresh take on the country's persisting problems of oppression and poverty.

"Respeto" makes a strong case for the magic in words and the appeal of hip-hop, a genre that inspires people to rise up when the powers that be are keeping them down.

"Respeto" stars Abra, Dido de la Paz, Loonie, Kate Alejandrino, Chai Fonacier, Ybes Bagadiong, Brian Arda, Thea Yrastorza, and Nor Domingo. — AT/LA, GMA News
