Why Julie Anne prioritized finishing college amid busy showbiz career

Julie Anne San Jose may be having big success in her acting and music careers, but she believes it's still important to acquire a college degree.

The Asia's Pop Sweetheart graduated with a degree in Communication Arts at Angelicum College in 2016.

In a press conference on Thursday, Julie said despite making a living out of her showbiz career, she said it's a smarter strategy to have a "fallback" since she said the industry is unpredictable.

"For me kasi po maganda pong may fallback ka kasi ako po para po talaga sakin hindi ko po kasi alam baka bukas wala na ako sa showbiz, you never know, so importante talaga," Julie Anne told the press.

She said finishing school was her priority and it was a promise she kept to her father.

"Ako kasi priority ko talaga that time is school and 'yon po, 'yong dad ko po kasi nagpromise po ako sa kanya na magtatrabaho po ako and at the same time mag-aaral po ako ng mabuti," Julie Anne said.

The Kapuso star also said a diploma is the best way she can repay her parents.

"It feels really great kasi importante talaga sa 'kin 'yung education at saka gusto ko talagang mag-give back sa parents ko, isa po 'yon sa pinakamagandang regalo na maibibigay mo sa magulang 'yong maka-graduate ka, 'yong diploma mo," Julie said.

Julie Anne revealed her school offered her a scholarship because of her high grades, all while working as an artist.

'Yung school ko po kasi before they offered me scholarship, so parang for me, importante po talaga na may degree," she said.

She said her status as a celebrity had nothing to do with her high grades, she stressed that it's all "hard work and patience."

"Hindi ko po kasi iniisip na porket celebrity or whatever mas nabibigyan ka ng consideration, that's the number one mistake na baka siguro 'yong notion ng mga tao sa mga artista na alam mo 'yon, 'di porke't artista ka, 'di porke't celebrity ka parang kino-consider ka ng mga professor mo, hindi po talaga ganon," Julie exclaimed.

Julie said being a working student before was her way to inspire others, "I also want to inspire other people na hindi madali ang magtrabaho and magaral at the same time, 'yun po sobrang saludo ako sa mga working students."

Other than her singing and acting career, Julie also dreams to become a new anchor and she's been practicing what she learned in college on her 24 Oras stints.

"I can say that, parang mas ma-apply ko 'yung mga napagaralan ko before, especially when I do stints sa 24 oras, parang isa sa mga pangarap ko ay maging news anchor magdeliver ng news, somehow grateful ako dahil isa po ako sa mga napipili nila na kunwari wala po silang host sa Chika Minute, isa po ako sa mga napipili nila," she said. —JST, GMA News
