Kapuso stars learned bravery after year-long workshop — Anthony Bova

Renowned international acting coach Anthony Bova on Tuesday expressed pride at how far Kapuso stars came under his tutelage.

Bova had flown back to Manila from New York for the culminating activity that showcased what the artists had learned during the coach's year-long training program.

"Bravery," Bova said when asked what the actors' greatest improvement was.

"They came in smaller than where they are now, and now they're not as afraid to take their space on set, take their space in life. And no matter what training you have, if you don't feel entitled enough to take your space, that training will not help too much," he added.

Actress Ana Feleo, who had also trained under Bova and is now his co-teacher, had similar sentiments.

She shared that the goal was for them to learn how to be independent artists.

"I am so beyond proud because our goal is for them, by the end of the year, for them to become independent artists, that they don't need to depend on any acting coach on the set. They can prepare on their own, they'd have the confidence na kaya nila magisa," she said.

"And now, watching them in the showcase, and wala, hands off na kami, sila nagpreprepare, and ang tapang tapang nila," she added.

Bova had taught the stars more than just the craft.

With the belief that the artists have to be "balanced" and "on the right track" at an early age, Bova said a big percentage of their teaching was focused on the emotionality and psychology of the actor.

"I don't teach that if you learn an acting craft that's the best thing you can do. I think the best thing you can do is always learn how to be a better person. And you apply being that better person to your craft, to your art," he said.

"It's very important that they get on the right track now, and to me that's even more important than the craft," he added. — LA, GMA News
