Sexbomb management: Arrested woman not a former member

The management of Sexbomb Dancers on Wednesday said that the woman arrested in a drug bust was not a former member of the group, contrary to her identification as such by the police.

"We don't know her and she's not a member of the Sexbomb Dancers," the group's management told GMA News Online.

A certain Sheena Joana Roño Uypico was arrested for alleged involvement in illegal drugs. Police Colonel Eleazar Matta, provincial director of Laguna Police, identified the suspect as a former member of the popular female dance group.

John Consulta's report on "24 Oras" later identified her only as a back-up dancer.

Several media outlets (not GMA News Online) used pictures of former Sexbomb member Sheena Flores de Castro for stories about the arrest. The group's management reminded journalists to verify and validate information first before publishing.

"Sana journalists would focus on being true than being first," management said.

De Castro, who is now based in the United States, has denied that she was the person arrested for illegal drugs.

She told GMA News Online that she was "shocked" to see news reports claiming that she was nabbed.

"I currently reside in the United States, not in Laguna. I do plan on seeking legal advice regarding this matter," she said. —JST, GMA News
