Jennylyn Mercado to play Dr. Maxine, Big Boss' leading lady in Pinoy adaptation of 'Descendants of the Sun'

It's official!

Jennylyn Mercado will play the leading lady in the Pinoy adaptation of "Descendants of the Sun." 

The award-winning actress will be playing Dr. Maxine, who will win the heart of "Big Boss" Captain Lucas, played by Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.

Hi everyone. Minsan lang ako magpost about my projects and hindi ko mapigilan ang sarili ko. I am super happy to portray Dr. Maxine De La Cruz of Descendants of The Sun The Philippine Adaptation. When I heard they started taping already and preparing for the soap, ako din nacurious kung sino nga ang napili para sa role. When I learned that it was me, I was overwhelmed with gratitude for GMA’s trust and also pressured since I know how big this project is. I promise I would do everything to give justice to the role. This will be Dingdong and Jennylyn's first on-screen pairing.

In an interview with "24 Oras," the actress recalled the last time she and Dingdong were ever in a teleserye together: The 2005 hit series Encantadia some 14 years ago.

In the Pinoy adaptation of "Descendants of the Sun" the two will play the roles originally portrayed by top Korean actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.

Jasmine Curtis, on the other hand, will play the role of Lt. Moira Defensor while Rocco Nacino will portray Sgt. Diego Ramos. Kapuso actors Prince Clemente, Jon Lucas and Lucho Ayala will also be on the show.

Jennylyn said she started undergoing some intense medical training to play the lead female role as realistic as she can.

"Kailangan kong maghabol kasi, siyempre, kakatapos ko lang nang isa pang soap tapos talon ako sa isa pang character so medyo mahirap. Medyo challenging para sa akin," she said.

Nevertheless, the Kapuso actress said she's doing her best to embody and stay true to the story's iconic character.

"Pinag-aaralan ko yung character niya eh, kailangan dikit talaga ako kay Dr. Kang," she said. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
