Rocco Nacino shows how to create your own DIY face shield

As a reservist for the Philippine Navy, Rocco Nacino has been creating do-it-yourself face shields that some frontliners can use as alternative protective gear.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads via respiratory droplets, so it is important to prevent these from entering our bodies.

In Nelson Canlas' report for "24 Oras," the "Descendants of the Sun" actor showed how to make a face shield using common household items.

Here's what you need:

1. Acetate paper or a thick plastic sheet

The size should just be enough to cover the face to block droplets from the nose or the mouth.

2. A strip of foam

This will be used for head support so the shield won't touch the face directly.

3. Double-sided tape

Use this to attach the acetate paper to the foam.

4. Stapler with staple wire

Make a cut in the middle of the acetate paper using scissors.  Then staple the two corners together to form the shape of the shield.

5. Shoelaces

Attach this to the acetate paper so you can tie the face shield around your head.

According to the World Health Organization, DIY equipment cannot guarantee protection against COVID-19. People should remain vigilant when using these items and continue to practice social distancing and hand hygiene. --MGP, GMA News
