'Scooby-Doo' co-creator Joe Ruby dies at 87


Joe Ruby, the co-creator of beloved cartoon “Scooby-Doo,” has passed away. He was 87.

According to Variety, the American writer and animator died of "natural causes.”

“He never stopped writing and creating, even as he aged,” his grandson Benjamin Ruby was quoted as saying.

To this day, “Scooby-Doo” is known far and wide.

The cartoon series, which first came out in 1969, is about a mystery-solving group of friends Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby who call themselves Mystery, Inc.

The cartoon saw several reboots and live-action movies over the years, including “Scooby Doo” (2002)  starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

A sequel “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” came out in 2004, and just this year, Scooby and the gang got a new CGI remake called “Scoob!” —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
