Heart Evangelista on taking care of yourself in age of social media: 'Step back from time to time'

Heart Evangelista, who has been vocal on her own struggles with mental health, shared the need to take care of yourself in the age of social media that highlights what appears to be picture-perfect lives.

"I guess it's not that you're being selfish but I guess you really need to step back from time to time," the actress told GMA News Online, Friday.

"You know in your heart you care, you know in your heart when given a chance, you'll get back and give back to your country but at the end of the day you also have to take care of yourself and your mental health because how will you function without it when you're not feeling right with yourself?" she added.

Heart also stressed the importance of doing things at your own time and at your own pace.

"Don’t pressure yourself because people are pressuring you," she said. "Do it on your own time, your own pace and that’s what's important because if you take care of yourself, you'll be able to take care of more people."

Just on Friday, Heart gave a talk about mental health during the virtual international event Global Town Hall 2020 where she was the only Filipina in the panel of speakers. —JCB, GMA News
