Albert Martinez reveals nearly retiring from showbiz
In an upcoming episode of "Tunay na Buhay," Albert Martinez revealed to Pia Arcangel how he nearly retired from being an actor.
"Kasi nga three months akong nasa bahay lang," Albert said. "I was with my dad and yung anak ko. Napag-isipan ko rin na, enjoy ko yata yung ganitong buhay. I was telling my manager, maybe this is the right time for me to retire, because I've accomplished what I wanted, mga goals ko, nakuha ko na rin," Albert said in the interview.
(I was stuck at home for three months. I was with my dad and my son. I realized I like that kind of life. So I told my manager, maybe this is the right time for me to retire. I've accomplished what I wanted. I've already reached my goals.)
The 59-year-old actor also revealed he even thought of starting "something different outside show business" but his manager disagreed. "Hindi pa time to retire as long as there is the offer and demand you're there," Albert narrated.
And true enough, the offers kept coming. The actor is set to work on a "Las Hermanas," a new teleserye with GMA Network.
"Yes. This is very interesting kasi soap opera siya pero ang treatment niya parang film and the way it was written, para siyang film. It's not a traditional soap opera," he said.
(Yes, this is very interesting because it is a soap opera but it was written and given treatment like a film. It's not a traditional soap opera.)
The actor said he is "very impressed with the director and the production staff and I'm very impressed with the power cast" and shared how emotions flowed during at the table read.
In the "Tunay na Buhay" episode, Albert shared how he has been preparing for his 30-day locked in taping.
"Well number one, to make my life comfortable for 30 days. I'm gonna bring all my work out equipment and mag-dadala na rin ako ng bike kung i-allow kami mag-bike around the area," he said.
"And swimming attire kasi may swimming pool so I can exercise. And then vitamins. And to keep me entertained, I have my movies to watch," he added.
Albert said he is also excited to work with Yasmien Kurdi, Thea Tolentina, and Faith Da Silva for the first time in "Las Hermanas."
Albert’s last project with GMA Network was “Twin Hearts” in 2004.
