Kyline Alcantara recalls incident with director who berated her when she was 8
Kyline Alcantara has recounted her experience with a director who belittled her when she was an 8-year-old talent.
In a PEP.ph report on Wednesday, the actress said the unnamed director got angry because she could not get her lines right.
“Napagalitan ako at na-discriminate ako ... sabi sa akin ng director, ‘talent ka lang. Diyan ka lang. Taga-Bicol ka pa. Ang pangit ng accent mo! Ayus-ayusin mo ’yan! Asan ba nanay mo?’” Kyline said during a virtual conference for her new drama “I Can See You: #Future.”
[I was scolded and discriminated against ... the director told me, “you’re only a talent. Just stay there. You’re even from Bicol. Your accent is bad! Fix it! Where’s your mom?”]
After scolding her, she said the director then berated her mother. He called her mom and made her speak on set because he had a problem with Kyline’s Bicolana accent.
In another instance, the same director lashed at her and pinched her when she could not cry on cue.
Kyline said the director humiliated both her and her mom on the set and she did not want that to happen again.
The experiences she went through, however, motivated Kyline to make a name for herself in show business.
Those incidents with the director in particular “boosted” the fire in her to do better, she said. “That’s why I really work hard to gain that respect.”
She also said she respected talents because she knew how they felt.
