Ken Chan on portraying someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder: 'I knew it wasn't going to be easy'


Ken Chan spent a lot of time preparing for his role as a person with a mental disorder in the upcoming Kapuso series "Ang Dalawang Ikaw."

On Instagram, Tuesday, Ken said he initially got nervous when GMA Network told him that he is going to play Nelson and Tyler who has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

"I knew it wasn't going to be easy [but I'm very excited]. It is a very sensitive topic [that's why I needed to study and research] about this condition," he said in a mix of English and Filipino.

"Also, I really needed a workshop because what I'll do won't be easy and I want to portray the right message to the Kapuso viewers," he added.

Ken said he watched movies and documentaries related to DID to help in his preparation. He was also guided by psychiatrist Dr. Babes Arcena with his scenes.

According to Mayo Clinic, DID formerly known as the multiple personality disorder.

It is characterized by feeling the "presence of two or more people talking or living inside your head" and "switching to alternate identities." 

"Ang Dalawang Ikaw," which will premiere later this month, also stars Rita Daniela as Ken's main love interest.
