'The Clash' Season 4 masters, judges, hosts reveal what they look for on the next grand champion

"The Clash" Season 4 is returning in October and Rayver Cruz and Julie Anne San Jose (Masters), Rita Daniela and Ken Chan (Journey Hosts), and the panel of judges Lani Misalucha, AiAi delas Alas, and Christian Bautista told GMA News Online what qualities they are looking for in the next winner.

1. Star quality

Fo Lani Misalucha, a good solid voice is a given in singing competitions. "So yung hanap ko — yung hanap namin — yung kumpleto sa lahat ng aspeto," she said continued.

"Minsan mga matitindi talaga ang boses, pero kumakanta lang siya. Parang wala siyang — alam mo yun? Kulang yung emotion niya, yung personality niya," she added.

So in the 4th season of "The Clash," Lani is looking for is someone with "star quality." 

2. Drive and versatility

For Julie Anne, it's important that the winner will want to keep learning. "When you want to stay in the industry, you have to learn how to adapt to new things and you have — meron kang drive palagi to really hone your skills and just learn and explore new things. So yun lang naman yung for me," she said.

3. Humility and good attitude 

Like Julie Anne, AiAi is thinking ahead, for when the grand champion become a showbiz mainstay. "Bukod sa siyempre kailangan natin yung star quality, kailangan din medyo yung humble at walang attitude, kasi pag sumikat ka na tapos pag may attitude ka ng 'di ka pa sikat, so pano na? Bukod sa star quality, sana yung mabait and yung walang attitude," she said.

4. Confidence

"Mase-sense mo agad sa aura nila. Alam mong game sila. iba yung mentality nila na 'I'm here to win'," Rayver said.

5. Purity and consistency of a singer 

For Rita, the grand champion needs to be pure and authentic. "When I say purity, 'yung totoong ikaw. Hindi 'yung — may ibang singers kasi na may sakit sila na unconsciously nagagaya nila yung singer na napakinggan nila. Or dahil maganda, gawin mo [rin] yung tunog na 'to," Rita said.

In a competition, Rita said a singer should be consistent with their performance.

"Kailangan din namin kung ano prinesent nung first time, kailangan niya higitan yung pinakita niya. Importante na pure talaga: talent, personality and consistency," she said.

6. Someone who can be a role model

Ken thinks "The Clash" is one way to inspire the youth, and so for him, it's important that the grand champion be someone who can be a role model to the youth.

"Ma-inspire 'yung mga nangangarap pa and pinaka importante sa kin 'yung may respect siya sa trabaho niya at mga katrabaho niya. 'Yun ang itinuro sa kin ng mentor ko si Kuya Germs," he said.

7. Well-rounded

Christian was pretty particular with what he's looking for. Specifically: Someone who possesses "Julie Anne’s talent, Rayver’s move, Ken’s wit, Rita’s authenticity, AiAi’s humor and Lani’s timelessness."

"The Clash" Season 4 is set to premiere on October 2 at 7:15 p.m. on GMA-7.

The Top 30 contenders for "The Clash" will be sharing their stories and voices as they fight to become the next grand champion.

The 3rd season of “The Clash” ended in December with Jessica Villarubin, Cebu’s Power Diva, declared as the grand champion. Villarubin follows the footsteps of Golden Cañedo and Jeremiah Tiangco. — LA, GMA News
