How to have a long showbiz career, according to Tonton Gutierrez


Staying on top of your game in showbiz is no joke, but veteran actor Tonton Gutierrez, who has made a name for himself in his decades-long career, has revealed a few of his secrets.

During his "Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko" press conference on Friday, the actor said professionalism and excellence were key ingredients to longevity.

"In my situation I just try to be as professional as I can. Andyan na pakikasama (Getting along with other people, for instance)," he said.

"I guess there's no secret behind it,” he added.

“Kailangan sa industriya, kailangan mo lang galingan ginagawa mo, maging professional ka. Maging totoo ka sa mga taong kinakaharap mo."

[In this industry, you just need to excel at what you're doing, you have to be professional. You have to be true to the people you’re facing.]

He added, "with all of those ingredients, [it will] help you sustain, be in this business for a long time."

Tonton also said that after decades in the industry, he still wished to continue acting for as long as he could because he "loved what he was doing."

"This is my bread and butter for me, for my family. I'd like to stay as long as I can," he said.

Known for his roles on "Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig?" and "Ika-5 na Utos," Tonton is currently starring in the fantasy series "Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko: It's Not You, It's Me" with Pokwang. The show, which airs every Sunday, premiered its first episode on Sunday and will end on Oct. 24. – RC, GMA News
