Garrett Bolden reveals why he doesn't like to watch reaction videos of him

When you become a great singer in the Philippines, your name is bound to end up in YouTube reaction videos all around the world.

After winning the Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) Star award for “Male Pop Artist of the Year,” Kapuso Soul Balladeer Garrett Bolden drew interest from these YouTubers, but he revealed that he sometimes couldn’t bear to watch these reaction videos.

"Well, sometimes, I watch reaction videos of myself and sometimes I don't, pero I don't watch it straight, like, mula umpisa hanggang matapos," he said in a zoom interview.

Like many artists, Garrett worries about getting negative feedback.

However, he also sees a downside to getting too much praise for his work.

"Kasi kahit sabihin nilang wag magpa-affect minsan natatakot ako kung may negative or ganyan, tapos minsan naman, kung masyadong positive, ganyan, minsan feeling ko na parang nafi-feel 'yung nagiging... complacent ba 'yung term na yon?" he explained.

"I become relaxed or eased, instead of doing my best," he added.

Nevertheless, Garrett Bolden is undoubtedly one of the most up-and-coming singer-songwriters in the country.

The Kapuso Soul Balladeer is now the holder of not one but two trophies from the Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) Star awards — he was recently named "Male Pop Artist of the Year" for 2021 only a year after being named "Recording Artist of the Year" in 2020.

He regularly appears on GMA-7's weekend variety show "All Out Sundays," and his first self-written song "Our Love" has also been selected as the official theme song for Heart Evangelista and Richard Yap's upcoming drama "I Left My Heart in Sorsogon."

During the interview, Garrett said he was grateful to GMA for all the opportunities that came his way since becoming a finalist on "The Clash" Season 1.

"I've been trying a lot to get into this business, and GMA gave me that chance, and GMA Music, as well, as my music label, so I'm really excited to see what's in store [for me] in the next few years, and the projects I could share with my fans and supporters ko and sa mga Kapuso natin," he said. —JCB, GMA News
