Mikee Quintos on kickstarting her music career: 'I believe it's time'
As of September this year, Mikee Quintos is officially a singer.
The Kapuso artist officially made her music debut after spending most of her showbiz career as an actress.
But in an interview with GMA reporters, Mikee said that singing was actually her first love, but she put it in the "backseat."
"Tinanggal ko na nga totally sa mind ko at some point eh," she said. "Pero nitong pandemic, nitong 2020, doon ko lang ulit nafeel... nagkaroon ako ng moments that brought me to the conclusion... parang ako lang ata nag-stop sa sarili ko."
"I tried to answer the question, 'What's stopping you, Mikee?' And wala akong maisip na sagot kundi ako lang. Ako lang ang pumipigil sa sarili ko," she added.
Which was why, when GMA Playlist offered Mikee a shot to live her old dreams, she took it as a sign.
"Never ko pa na-explore fully what I can do with music, so I believe it's time na," she said. "I think I should focus on music."
Mikee said that she was shocked at the positive reception that her first-ever single "Just Enough" had. She was in both disbelief and denial.
She added she wanted to dedicate the song to her supportive fans.
"I'm so happy. And I really wanted to offer the first single to the fans, kasi sila naman 'yung naniwala, or 'yung laging nangungulit. Kahit nandoon ako sa point na give up na ko sa music, sila 'yung 'Ate Mikee, post it.' Syempre 'di ko sinasabi sa kanila na give up na ko. But ngayon I can talk about it, kasi na-overcome ko na," she said.
Mikee released "Just Enough" in September and said it "came just at the right time."
She made a stir when she rocked a blonde bob just for the occasion.
The actress just renewed her contract with GMA Artist Center last Thursday, Nov. 18. —JCB, GMA News
