Chito Miranda shares funny prank that led Parokya Ni Edgar to name new album 'Borbolen'

Chito Miranda revealed on social media a hilarious prank the Parokya ni Edgar members did that led them to name their upcoming album "Borbolen."

In an Instagram post on Thursday, the Parokya ni Edgar frontman shared a photo of a newspaper article by writer Rea Gomez and said, "Dito namin nakuha 'yung title na 'Borbolen'."

In the article, Rea shared how Parkoya members were sharing "wisecracks and practical jokes" while having a meal at McDonald's. Suddenly, one member put a quarter pounder on one seat, which their manager sat on, splashing ketchup all over his pants.

In the next photo, Chito shared a screenshot of a 2019 social media post, where he shared the same newspaper clip, and asked his followers for name suggestions for a song he was making.

"Kelangan ko ng tulong," he had written. "Ano ba magandang term or pwedeng itawag sa isang grupo ng magkakaibigan or magkakatropa na medyo pilyo at troublemakers at palagi kang pinapahamak kahit hindi sadya pero mababait naman at mahal na mahal mo? Hindi kailangang Tagalog. Basta magandang term (What't a good term or what can you call a group of friends that's kind of naughty and are troublemakers and always causing you harm unintentionally but they're kind and you love them very much? It doesn't have to be Tagalog. It just has to be a good term)."

He added, "May ginagawa kasi akong kanta pero walang maisip na title eh (I've making a song and I can't think of a title)."

Chito also clarified that it was bass guitarist Buwi Meneses who put the burger on their former manager's chair during the interview.

A netizen replied, suggesting the Kapampangan word "Borbolen."

"'Yung tipong nanahimik 'yung aso tas dadaan kayo magkaka barkada tapos 'yung isa 'mong kaibigan, bubulabugin 'yung aso para habulin kayong lahat. Perfect example ng borbolen (It's like a dog is minding its own business when your group passes by and one of your friends decides to ruin the dog's peace so it will chase you all. Perfect example of borbolen)," the netizen explained.

The netizen's suggestion even got the approval of Chito's wife, actress and entrepreneur Neri Naig!

She replied, "Nakakatawa 'yung borbolen. Paano yan tatanungin? Borbolen ka ba (Borbolen is funny. How do you ask that? Are you borbolen)?"

Two years later and Parokya ni Edgar is set to release a new album called "Borbolen." The band's newest in five years, "Borbolen" will drop on all digital platforms tomorrow.

Last year, the band made it to Spotify's list of top OPM artists for 2020.

Known for popular songs "Harana," "Gitara," and "Bagsakan," Parokya ni Edgar has been around since 1996. — LA, GMA News
