'Cheers' actress Kirstie Alley succumbs to cancer at 71

"Cheers" actress Kirstie Alley has passed away at 71, her children, True and Lillie Parker, announced on Twitter Tuesday.

"We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered," the statement reads.

The statement assured that Kirstie was surrounded by her closest family as she fought cancer with "great strength."

"As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother," the statement continued.

True and Lillie then remembered how their mother lived her life purposefully.

"Our mother's zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did," they wrote.

The Parkers ended the statement by thanking those who sent their love and prayers.

Aside from portraying Rebecca Howe in "Cheers," Kirstie also starred in the 1898 romantic comedy film "Look Who's Talking" alongside John Travolta, who posted a sweet tribute on Instagram following his co-star's death.

"Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I've ever had," John wrote. "I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again."

Rest in peace, Kirstie.
