Director Mark Reyes says 'Encantadia' prepared him for 'Voltes V: Legacy'
After the mega trailer of "Voltes V: Legacy" dropped earlier this week, netizens and excited viewers couldn't help but give their words of approval, with some referencing the trailer to how fantasy-forward "Encantadia" is.
In Tuesday's press conference with Director Mark Reyes, who also directed "Encantadia," he agreed that there are some similarities between the two shows, given that they have the same mystical genre.
"They have the same genre when it comes to royalty, culture, and [being] mystical," he said.
He added that "Voltes V: Legacy" will be a mix of medieval culture with hints of Baroque and Victorian, but in terms of royalty, it quite resembles "Encantadia."
"The kingdom, the castle, the palaces are there," he said. "The [Encantadia] DNA was there, so it was easy for me."
In terms of incorporating Filipino culture into the fantasy-action series, Reyes said that Filipinos' devotion to faith and being hopeless romantic would be apparent — all while staying true to the plot of the original "Voltes V" anime.
One of the many things to watch out for in the upcoming GMA series is the development of Steve Armstrong and Jamie Robinson's love story, but Reyes assured that it wouldn't be a distraction for the show's main plot.
"It's not a distraction at all to the main storyline of Voltes V, [rather] it's one of the flavors that's gonna be enjoyed by the teenagers," he said.
Four days after the "Voltes V: Legacy" trailer dropped on social media, the video has amassed over 3.3 million views on Facebook and more than a million on YouTube.
Reyes was on cloud nine when it hit two million views on Facebook in under 24 hours. Meanwhile, Michael V. said he got goosebumps with how promising the show is. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
