‘It’s Showtime’ pays tribute to Nora Aunor, Pilita Corrales in heartfelt song number

“It’s Showtime” took time to honor Philippine Entertainment legends Nora Aunor and Pilita Corrales who both passed away last week. 

Monday’s episode showed “It’s Showtime” hosts Vice Ganda and Ogie Alcasid, Tawag ng Tanghalan winners as well as judge Pops Fernandez singing to “Handog” by Florante at Laura as photos of Nora and Pilita flashed on the screen. 

“Madalng pipol nitong nakaraang araw, kasabay ng ating pagninilay-nilay, ay dalawang magkasunod na balita ang gumulat at labis na nagpalungkot sa sambayanan," Vice began.

"Ang pagpanaw ng dalawa sa mga tinitingala nating institusyon sa mundo ng musika at pelikulang Pilipino. Mga sining na pinagyaman ng Asia’s Queen of Songs at ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ hurado Miss Pilita Corrales and ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ 1967 Grand Champion and Philippine Superstar and National Artist of the Philippines for Film and Broadcast Arts Miss Nora Aunor,” the host continued before their performance.

Vice, who called Pilita and Nora the “reyna ng tanghalan,” remembered the two showbiz stalwarts for their invaluable contributions to the Philippine Entertainment industry, which included being part of “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

“Ang kanilang mga alaala at hindi matatawarang ambag ay mananatili sa ating mga puso’t isipan kabilang na ang pagiging bahagi nila ng pambansang kompetisyon na patuloy na nagyayabong ng mga talentong Pilipino,” he added. 

Pilita died on April 12, while Nora passed away on April 16. 

Pilita first rose to fame in Australia with her hit "Come Closer to Me." When she returned to the Philippines, she conquered the music industry, with hits like "A Million Thanks to You."

She also easily became a television star, first starring in "Your Evening with Pilita," several other shows, and even movies. One of her latest works was a special participation in "Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers."

Meanwhile, Nora who was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022 is known for her blockbuster films which included "Himala," "Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo," and "Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos."
