Carla Abellana emotional at finding hit-and-run aspin, gives it a proper burial

Trigger warning: descriptions of animal death.

Carla Abellana could not help but cry upon finding a run-over dog at the Quezon City Circle, and she shared her plans to give the dog a proper burial.

On her Threads account, the actress shared she found the dog "by the gutter, there was a pool of blood by its mouth, and clearly it was stiff-looking, and not moving."

“It seems like somebody hit the aspin and managed or was still kind enough to move the aspin's body to the gutter by the sidewalk,” she said.

Carla made her driver head back to QC Circle, and since she has blankets and pillows in her car, “I knew right away that I just had to get the aspin and give it it a proper burial.”

They lifted the dog into her car, and Carla said it was heavy as "it has started decomposing already."

However, she said it likely had an owner as it wasn't skin and bones.

"I think they’ve probably been wondering where he or she has been the last 24 hours. And I highly doubt that they have an idea or they’re aware that he or she has passed away," she said, tearing up.

Carla filmed the video as she was on her way home, but planned to bury the dog in an empty lot right across her house.

“I just really want to give the aspin a proper burial kasi nakakaawa.” In tears, she continued, “I’m giving him or her a proper burial because it’s the least I can do. Wala man lang nakapag-rescue sa kanya, at least give him the burial he deserves.”

She added that she gets sad whenever she sees stray dogs who are skin and bones, abandoned, scared, and suffering.

“Every time I’m on the road, I try my best and hopefully more of you try your best to help rescue, save, feed, adopt, spay and neuter your own pets so they don’t reproduce, they don’t keep producing unwanted puppies and victims,” she said.

Carla called on her followers to not just report or post about problems regarding animal suffering, but to actually help them out.

“You are someone. You can do something.”

Carla has long been an animal welfare advocate. In 2020, she adopted two dogs from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

In 2024, she rescued a dog ran over by a car along NLEX.

Carla last appeared in “Widows’ War,” which aired its finale in January.

In July, she launched her own handmade goods brand, Artisana.
