Mercedes Cabral says her dad refused to talk to her for a month after doing sexy scenes in 'Serbis'

Mercedes Cabral says her dad refused to talk to her for a month after doing sexy scenes in 'Serbis'

Mercedes Cabral revealed that her father gave her the cold shoulder early in her acting career when she starred in Brillante Mendoza's 2008 film, "Serbis."

On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," the veteran actress talked about the challenges of taking on sexy roles, especially when it comes to getting her family to accept that it's part of her work.

Mercedes said she is the only girl among her siblings, so her dad had a negative reaction to seeing her do suggestive scenes in "Serbis."

"Kasalanan ko kasi hindi ko sa kanya sinabi na, 'May makikita ka na ganito ah,'" she said. "It was my fault. So napanood niya without me knowing it."

"Serbis," which also starred Gina Pareño and Coco Martin, actually competed in the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. Mercedes flew to France to attend the festival, but that achievement did not stop her dad from expressing his disapproval.

"Naiiintidihan ko rin kung san siya nanggagaling so pag-uwi ko, I was in Cannes, tapos pagbalik ko ng Pilipinas, hindi niya ako kinakausap for a month," she said.

"Eventually naano na rin niya, natanggap na rin niya and sinabi lang niya sa akin, 'Sa susunod na gagawa ka ng pelikula at ipapapanood mo sa amin sabihin mo kung meron para hindi ko na lang papanoorin.'"

Mercedes is among the cast of upcoming GMA Afternoon Prime series "Hating Kapatid," which stars Carmina Villarroel, Zoren Legaspi, and their twins Mavy and Cassy.

The series will premiere on Monday at 2:30 p.m. after "It's Showtime." —MGP, GMA Integrated News
