Ely Buendia sets the record straight after Baus Rufo and Macoy Dubs ask: 'Is it Bwen-ja or Bwen-dee-ya?'

Is Ely Buendia’s surname pronounced as “Bwen-ja” or “Bwen-dee-ya?” 

On TiKTok, Ely responded to an episode of the “Dogshow Divas” podcast hosted by comedians Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo, where the two wondered out loud how to pronounce Ely's last name.

“Ang tamang pag-pronounce ba sa pangalan niya ay Ely ‘Bwen-ja?’ That’s the million dollar question. Mr. Ely, if you have time, please set the record straight and come to our podcast. Send us an email," the hosts said.

In his video, Ely is seen listening intently on his phone with a guitar on his lap before saying, “Guys, I’ll save you the trouble of interviewing me.”

“It’s ‘Bwen-dee-ya,’” Ely said.

He added, “‘Bwen-dee-ya has always been the way, my family at least, pronounced our surname.”

In the comment section, Baus thanked Ely in his signature exaggerated manner, saying “HUHU thank you for stating the nation with this address! Salamat po sa airtime! Mabuhay ang OPM.”

Macoy commented on Instagram, “Thank you for answering the million peso question, Sir. Charot! More power.”

“Dogshow Divas” is a podcast where Baus and Macoy discuss a variety of topics like Filipino culture, work, showbiz, fashion and more.

Baus is a comedian and host. He is a co-founder of the production company Bekenemen, which holds drag watch parties.

Macoy meanwhile is a content creator who rose to fame with his skits of the character Auntie Julie.

Ely as we know is a Pinoy Rock icon. He fronted the Eraserheads before starting Pupil and then embarking on a solo career. He released his solo album “Method Adaptor” in 2024.
