Jericho Rosales touched after being recognized by locals during Tanzania trip

Jericho Rosales shared a memorable experience from his recent trip to Tanzania, where locals instantly recognized him from his past TV roles.

On Tuesday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the actor admitted that he initially tried to avoid the destination out of concern that the visit might turn into a professional obligation.

"I love Africa, and I've been wanting to go to Tanzania, and they sold 'Pangako Sa 'Yo' and 'Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas' in Tanzania. And I tried my best to, you know, say maybe Tanzania would not be a great, you know, destination to visit because it might be a work visit," Jericho said.

He recalled that the recognition began the moment he landed at the airport.

"'Angelo. Christian.' 'Yun 'yung tinawag ako ng immigration person, pinabalik ako, 'You are the actor,'" he said.

Jericho said from the very first day until he made it to Serengeti, locals continually pointed at him.

"'You're the actor,' and they're saying thank you," he said.

They explained to Jericho that the show they watched in 2008 had changed many aspects of their viewing experience and that they related profoundly to the series.

"And I was so proud and I was like, this is what I've been trying to avoid and I embraced it and I said, this is why I do soap operas and teleseryes. This is why I do what I do because I touch, we touch people's lives," Jericho said.

He shared the special moment with his partner, Janine Gutierrez, who was present to witness the extent of his international fame.

"Ang sarap ng feeling and, of course, for Janine to be there to witness that and she was so supportive and it's our first big travel together. She's never been to Africa," he said.

Jericho plays the role of former President Manuel L. Quezon in the historical biopic "Quezon."

He stars alongside Benjamin Alves, Mon Confiado, Therese Malvar, Arron Villaflor, Cris Villanueva, Romnick Sarmenta, Karylle, JC Santos, Jake Macapagal, Bodjie Pascua, Angeli Bayani, Jojit Lorenzo, Joross Gamboa, Ana Abad Santos, Ketchup Eusebio, and Nico Locco.
