Emil Sumangil reveals his signature style was inspired by electric fan trick

Emil Sumangil had large shoes to fill when he replaced the late Mike Enriquez as one of the anchors of "24 Oras."

On Wednesday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," the Kapuso Action Man said that he cannot match or top Mike, so he carved his own path.

"Ako'y naniniwala na binibigyan tayo Tito Boy ng mahal na Diyos Ama ng kani-kanya nating talent at ito 'yung ginagamit ko sa kahit papaano para mapunan 'yung kanyang naiwan," he said.

Emil created his own style when he was entrusted to host the GMA Public Affairs program "Resibo." He is now known for rolling his R's to emphasize the program's name.

"Dahil nga bago tayo pare-pareho lalo ako sa industriya na 'to, sa Public Affairs, sa public service program, ang bigat nung assignment so umisip ako ng paraan paano kaya mapapatatak ito sa public," he said.

As for his inspiration? It's the good old electric fan trick commonly done by children.

"Naalala ko nung bata tayo isa sa mga laruan natin, tatapat tayo sa bentilador," he said. "Paglalaruan mo 'yung boses mo, maiiba 'yung tono, maiiba 'yung tunog kasi pumasok sa blade ng electric fan."

He also applied what he learned from Mike, who was known for his own distinctive style when reporting.

"Kapagka magbibitiw ka ng pangungusap, ng balita, tiyakin mo na merong authority sa paghahatid mo ng balita. Ikaw dapat ang pinapakinggan," he said.

"So 'yung power, kailangan eh may puwersa, may impact kada ikaw ay magbibikas ng salita, ng kataga, hanggang sa pangungusap na," he added.

Emil said he tried it out and continued it when he did not get negative feedback from his bosses about it.
