Dennis Trillo's son Calix Ho on Rookie of the Year title: 'It feels amazing'
Dennis Trillo’s son Calix Ho is brimming with pride and joy after being named the Rookie of the Year for the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Fencing Tournament.
In an interview with the UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development, Calix said that playing in the UAAP used to only be a dream for him.
“It feels amazing kasi parang six months ago, I’ve only dreamed of stepping onto a UAAP piste but now I’m suddenly rookie of the year. It feels amazing talaga,” Calix said.
Now that his season has ended, the young athlete said that he will still continue working to get that gold for his team.
“Of course job’s not finished. We have to continue working hard and achieve that team gold medal we didn’t achieve this season.”
Calix won gold in the event, defeating De La Salle University’s Edan Ensamtan, 15-12, in the finals after overcoming Ateneo’s Jotham Thai, 15-10, in the quarterfinals and pulling off a 15-14 comeback against University of Santo Tomas’ Adam Putian in the semifinals.
Proud dad Dennis was present at the tournament held last week as were Jennylyn Mercado and Calix’s mom, Carlene Aguilar.
Calix has been joining fencing competitions with the support from both parents. In September 2025, Calixwon first place in a fencing match with Dennis sharing his achievement on social media.
