Miguel Tanfelix reflects on meaningful encounter with Dumagat community during 'Planet XP' taping
Miguel Tanfelix's encounter with the Dumagat community in Bulacan was among his most memorable experiences from taping “Planet XP.”
In an interview with GMA News Online, Miguel recalled visiting the Dumagat people in Norzagaray, Bulacan, where he immersed himself in their culture and daily life.
“Tinawid namin 'yung Angat Lake and then parang sa kalagitnaan ng bundok, mayroong community doon,” he said, noting the scenic route and the simplicity of life in the area.
According to the Sparkle actor, the experience went beyond sightseeing, as he was able to interact closely with the locals, learn traditional games, and taste their food, including bamboo-cooked dishes that became his personal favorite.
“Sobrang simple nila mamuhay. ‘Yung mga games na physical games na laro nila, tinuro nila sa akin. 'Yung food nila na binuho, sobrang sarap. Favorite ko 'yun,” he said.
As he immersed himself in their local culture, Miguel said the encounter offered valuable life lessons, particularly on finding joy in simplicity.
“Minsan hindi natin kailangan ng mga magagarbong bagay para mag-enjoy sa buhay,” he shared, emphasizing how communities like the Dumagat subsist with minimal reliance on modern technology.
The actor added that the show’s advocacy centers on reconnecting people with nature and rediscovering fulfillment beyond gadgets and material things.
“'Yung panahon ngayon, sobrang naka-depende na ang mga tao sa gadgets. Pero doon sa mga pinuntahan namin, makikita mo na kaya nilang maging masaya at mag-thrive bilang community,” he said.
Through “Planet XP,” Tanfelix hopes viewers will be inspired to appreciate a simpler way of living—one that values connection with nature and community over modern conveniences.
“So, alam mo 'yun, parang the simpler the life, parang mas masaya, mas less ‘yung problem niyo.”
“Planet XP” is a five-part program that premiered on May 2, airing every Saturday at 6:30 p.m on GMA Network.
Inspired by the gaming term “XP” or Experience Points, “Planet XP” will take viewers on immersive journeys across the Philippines, highlighting not only breathtaking destinations but also the country’s rich culture and diverse communities.
In this show, Tanfelix will showcase both the beauty of nature and the stories of the people who call these places home. The program will feature his meaningful encounters with various communities, including the Dumagat of Norzagaray, Bulacan; the Women Weavers of Cavinti, Laguna; the Ayta-Mag-Indi farmers of Floridablanca, Pampanga; the Mighty Mountaineers of San Jose, Tarlac; and grassroots windsurfers in Mabini, Batangas.
