In 'The Master Cutter,' Dingdong Dantes remains a student of the craft

Dingdong Dantes will get to display his acting range in "The Master Cutter" thanks to the different disguises that his character, Atoy, will put on in the series.

But the Kapuso actor was quick to say that he is far from a master, despite his many years of experience in the entertainment industry.

"Wala naman sigurong magke-claim na somebody is a master of something," he said during the talk back session with the cast after the red carpet premiere of the series on Tuesday."

"Ako I would say that I will always be a student of something and para sa 'kin, I am always a student of the arts and of this craft," he added, drawing cheers from the audience.

Even Dingdong's character, Atoy, is someone who appears extremely competent at what he does, whether as a soldier or a tailor. And yet he remains lost in other aspects of his life, just like many people.

"Si Atoy naghahanap siya ng mga taong tutulungan, naghahanap siya ng taong hindi mahanap pero siya kaya niyang gawin. Pero ang katotohanan nun, kasi hindi rin niya talaga mahanap kung ano 'yung sagot sa sarili niyang problema."

Atoy is named for St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of lost things and people. It signals the overarching theme of "The Master Cutter."

"It is an action series but with a heart," Dingdong said. "It talks about finding things, not just literally finding things but finding oneself."

"The Master Cutter" is Dingdong's primetime comeback after "Royal Blood" in 2023.

Directed by Dominic Zapata, the series also stars Max Collins, Sienna Stevens, Shuvee Etrata, Charlie Fleming, Anthony Constantino, and more.

"The Master Cutter" will premiere on GMA Prime on Monday, May 11. It will also be streaming on Netflix —CDC, GMA News
