Bea Millan-Windorski, Boy Abunda weigh in on Marina Summers' Miss Universe PH hosting

Bea Millan-Windorski and Boy Abunda shared their thoughts on Marina Summers’ Miss Universe Philippines 2026 hosting stint, which sparked mixed reactions online.

On Wednesday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda." the newly crowned queen came to Marina’s defense, saying, “she was nothing but professional"

According to Bea, Marina "really stuck to the script of what Miss Universe Philippines expected of her."

Underscoring the significance of Marina’s role as a trans woman hosting a major national pageant, Bea said, “This was such a history-defining moment because Miss Universe Philippines is not only a pageant, it's a cultural institution here in the Philippines and the fact that a trans woman was able to host with such beauty and grace is a celebration for all of our trans brothers and sisters, especially for me as a proud younger sister of a trans older brother."

Tito Boy echoed her sentiments, offering a generally positive review of Marina’s performance while acknowledging differing opinions.

“I found Marina Summers good, actually very good. One to 10, I'd give her an 8.5. I mean 1.5 short of being perfect. I like the idea that she did it the way she wanted to do it. Her energy was just right, higher than Olivia Culpo, the first time Olivia hosted Miss Universe,” he said.

The King of Talk praised Marina for carving out her own hosting style instead of following convention.

“What I liked about her was she didn't fall into the trap of doing the hosting chore for Miss Universe Philippines the way others would have done it. I'm not saying that the way others do it is wrong. Pero ang napakaganda kay Marina, para sa akin, tama ang energy niya. She didn't scream. She didn't host it like a boxing match. She didn't host it like a mixed martial arts championship. She didn't host it like a game show. She did it the way she wanted to do it,” he said.

He also highlighted Marina’s handling of the Q&A segment and joined Bea in recognizing the broader impact of her hosting.

“I just love the idea that a trans woman hosted Miss Universe Philippines. I agree with you, that calls for a celebration. So she did very well in my book and this is an opinion. At ang maganda ho dito, may opinyon ang iba, may opinyon kami, let's not fight. Let's hear each other. Let's elevate this conversation into how things should be done,” he said.

Marina came out as a trans woman in February.

She made “herstory” as the first trans woman to host Miss Universe Philippines.

Meanwhile, Bea won the competition held on Saturday and will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2026 pageant in November in Puerto Rico. — LA, GMA News
