'Muro-ami': Where to watch the digitally remastered acclaimed film

Muro-ami” is hitting Philippine cinemas this June!

The award-winning film starring Cesar Montano and directed by the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Marilou Diaz-Abaya, will return to the big screen in a digitally remastered form.

An initial list of 35 movie theaters across the country will screen "Muro-Ami" beginning June 3. Movie tickets are priced at P250.

In an interview with GMA News Online, lead star Cesar Montano expressed his excitement about the re-release of “Muro-ami.”

“I’m very excited. Nung marinig ko na magkakaroon — nakita ko pa lang 'yung trailer, tuwang-tuwa na ako. So ngayon, I was jumping up and down,” he said.

The veteran actor also emphasized that the restoration stayed faithful to the film’s original version and did not use artificial intelligence in the process.

“Nakakatuwa, walang AI ito. Ladies and gentlemen, digitally remastered only,” Cesar said.

Muro-ami” was the entry of GMA Pictures to the 1999 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won 13 awards, including Best Picture. With screenplay by Jun Robles Lana, the movie tackled the controversial and dangerous practice of child divers being used in destructive fishing methods.
