Mika Salamanca calls for consistent kindness after visit to malnourished children in Tondo
Mika Salamanca is encouraging others to lend a helping hand after a recent outreach visit in Tondo, Manila, where she met children facing malnutrition.
On Instagram, the actress said the experience was something she would not easily forget, admitting that seeing the situation firsthand affected her deeply.
“Yesterday was one of those days na alam kong hindi ko makakalimutan,” Mika began.
She said that while people often hear about malnutrition, witnessing it personally gave her a different understanding of the issue.
“Meeting these kids, seeing how underweight some of them were, seeing some of them without slippers… ang sakit pala talaga sa puso. It made me realize how many things we take for granted every single day,” she said.
Saying she was inspired by the organization she worked with during the visit, the PBB Celebrity Edition Season 1 Big Winner said the group has been consistently providing warm meals for children over the past two months, monitoring their progress until they reach healthier weights, and offering access to free education and medical care.
“What I admired even more was how intentional they are with helping. They don’t accept cash donations. Instead, they ask for things the children actually need. Food, milk, medicine, slippers, school supplies, and other essentials so every donation goes directly to improving these kids’ lives,” she said.
A reflective Mika wrote, “Yesterday reminded me that kindness isn’t about showing up once. It’s about showing up consistently, even when nobody’s watching.”
She encouraged her followers to appreciate everyday necessities and to help whenever they are in a position to do so, no matter how small the contribution may be.
“You don’t have to change the whole world. But you can absolutely help change someone’s world,” she said.
She ended her post by thanking the children she met for reminding her what resilience looks like, and expressing gratitude to the people who continue to dedicate their time and effort to helping them.
During her visit, Mika also gave the children copies of her book “Lipad.”
Mika is set to star in the comedy film "Saving Cherry" starring Barbie Forteza.
She also recently starred in "The Secrets of Hotel 88."
