Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza among top taxpayers of BIR
Alden Richards and Barbie Forteza were recognized by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) among the country's top taxpayers.
According to Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras” on Friday, the BIR honored the two Kapuso stars not only for their tax contributions but also for using their platforms to remind the public about the importance of paying the correct taxes.
Alden was recognized as one of the country's highest taxpayers for 2025. While grateful for the recognition, the actor said nation-building should go beyond paying taxes.
“We are all here for the betterment of the country, to lift the majority of our needy fellow citizens out of poverty,” Alden said in English and Filipino.
“At the same time, we're very honored to have this platform to set reminders as well, not just to the citizens, not just to taxpayers, but also to government employees. Let's help each other so that the Philippines can rise from where it is today."
Barbie, meanwhile, emphasized that paying taxes is both a privilege and a responsibility, noting that tax revenues help fund essential public services.
"Yes, I understand that this is both an honor and a responsibility, and there are many LGUs and programs that actually draw funds from our national taxes, such as healthcare, educational programs, public welfare, and the like," she said in English and Filipino.
"So one individual can bring significant change for our fellow citizens, may it be a small contribution."
Aside from the recognition, Barbie also celebrated her birthday on Friday. The actress said she prefers a simple celebration with her loved ones.
"The simpler, the better," Barbie said, adding that being with her family is enough to make the occasion special.
As for her birthday wish, the actress joked that she simply wants to enjoy a hearty meal.
"Family dinner. Of course, my parents’ request is seafood)," she said.
Alden currently stars in “Love Siargao,” a collab series of GMA Network, Viva Communications, and Viu Philippines.
He is also set to star in the upcoming Kapuso medical drama “Code Grey.”
