Joey de Leon praises young writers behind Supremo Award

Joey de Leon received none other but the very first Supremo Award – the biggest and most prestigious honor at the Supreme to the Extreme Awards hosted by young writers of the Philippine Star. This was clarified by Joey when interviewed Sunday by the hosts of GMA-7’s Showbiz Central following the confusion on who really won the highest honor. Saying he was so proud to be feted by young writers, Joey likened the honor given to him to other international prestigious awards. “Eto pakwela lang kung baga sa Oscars, (ito ay) Lifetime Achievement (award). Kung sa Time (magazine) naman, ito ay Man of the Year (award)," Joey quipped, adding “kung baga sa Noontime show Eat Bulaga ‘yan," referring to the noontime show where he is a stay-in. Joey received the award last Friday. The event, which was spearheaded by writer-celebrity Tim Yap, was held at Embassy Super Club in The Fort, Taguig City. The purpose of the award was to honor achievers in different sectors including fashion and showbiz. The elated Joey de Leon said that the award was so special to him because it came from known people in print industry. “Proud na proud talaga ako," he said. “Napakahalaga sa akin ng award na ito ibang breed ito hindi ito yung umiinom lang sa diyan sa tabi eto yung young writers na they know how to have fun at the same time magaling sumulat. At the same time saklaw nilang ang kasosyalan at kamasahan," Joey said. Joey said that he was so proud of the recognition that he even brought along with him his sons Jaco and Jocas to witness the event. Aside from receiving a trophy, Joey also brought home a limited edition of Swatch watch and a Pussy Cat stuffed toy. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
