2 RP films to be screened at Montreal filmfest

Two Filipino films will be screened at the 2009 Montreal World Film Festival. Joel Lamangan's Dukot (Desaparecidos) and Ronaldo Bertubin's Last Viewing will be part of this year's Montreal World Film Festival scheduled for August 27 to September 7. Both films are screening in the Focus on World Cinema section of the Canadian film festival. Dukot, which will have its world premiere in Montreal, is written by Bonifacio Ilagan, who wrote the hugely successful The Flor Contemplacion Story in 1995. The film stars Iza Calzado, Snooky Serna, Emilio Garcia, Gina Alajar, Robert Arevalo, Felix Roco, Raquel Villavicencio, and Allen Dizon. The films shows the torture and suffering that young activists (portrayed by Allen and Iza) underwent when they were abducted by state security forces. Dukot is the first production venture of Carina D. Pagcu for CDP Events and Entertainment Productions. It is co-produced by ATD Entertainment with Dennis Evangelista as supervising producer. Last Viewing, which got an A Rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board, will have its international premiere at Festival des Films du Monde. This is the comeback film of Janice de Belen, who is cast as a crematory supervisor who learns to deal with the death of a loved one. She is supported by Sherwin Ordoñez, Leandro Baldemor, and Tommy Abuel, in a film which introduces Maro Panganiban as Janice's autistic child. The film is written by Romualdo Avellanosa, who also wrote Bertubin's Kurap Sikil and Lovebirds. This is also the first production venture of Lisa Davis's Davis Entertainment Productions. Ms. Davis is supported by Olivia Madrigal, Antonio de Guzman Jr. and Robert Joseph Yap. Dukot and Last Viewing are represented by Ignatius Films Canada. - Philippine Entertainment Portal
