iGMA: Paulo Avelino assumes ‘Aureus’ role in Panday Kids

The star of StarStruck 4 Avenger and GMA Artist Center talent Paulo Avelino shines even brighter as he takes on the role of Aureus, the right hand of Guro (played by Christopher de Leon) on GMA-7’s top-rating telefantasya Panday Kids. "I feel very privileged to have gotten the role in such a high profile show. GMA-7 could’ve picked someone else but they got me. I will do my best not to let down both the fans of the show and the network," said the commercial model-turned-actor. Like the rest of the cast members of Panday Kids, Paulo will undergo Wushu training in order to deliver on the fight scenes required in the show. He is also studying the portrayal of his predecessor so he could differentiate his attack on the role. “Playing Aureus is a unique challenge because it’s the first time I’m stepping into someone else’s shoes. There will be comparisons, of course, but I am confident that I’ll be able to give the character a new dimension," he said. It helps that the 21-year-old young actor is athletic. Not only is he physically fit for the role, but mentally prepared for the challenges. Engaging in sports such as rock climbing and scuba as well as working out regularly at the gym, Paulo knows that like everything else in life that’s worth pursuing, it’s “no pain, no gain." Paulo’s past roles indicate that he is being molded into becoming a versatile actor. From drama (Ina Kasusuklaman Ba Kita), suspense (Patient X), rom-com (Dear Friend: The Three Bachelors), fantasy (Ang Panday) and even hosting (on SOP Rules and StarStruck ShoutOut), he seems to have had all the bases covered. And unlike some of his peers, Paulo has never been tied to a love team. Although he has been linked to many of his onscreen partners such as Jewel Mische, Jennica Garcia and LJ Reyes, the merit of his work always rises above the speculations. “They say that sometimes, it’s easier to go up when you are part of a love team because of the kilig factor. But being without one also has its advantages. It’s important for me not to be limited or typecast at this point in my career," said the heartthrob. In Panday Kids, Paulo will have Jackie Rice as his love interest. Despite the good breaks coming his way, Paulo remains low-profile and straightforward in his dealings with other people. He said that he has no plans of changing as a person even when his star shines brighter. “Outside work, I’ll still be who I’ve always been.
