Yasmien Kurdi's Lebanese grandma maltreated her
Yasmien Kurdi draws from bad experiences with her Lebanese grandmother to give life to Charming, the maltreated long-lost daughter that she plays in Bakekang. In a Nov. 21 interview with Ruel Mendoza of the Philippine Entertainment Portal, Kurdi said whenever she cries in a Bakekang, it's for real, because she remembers how her Lebanese grandmother would make her work like a slave whenever her father wasn't around. They were living in Libya the, and she was just eight. "I wasn't her favorite because I have Pinoy blood," Yasmien said in Filipino in an interview during a press conference for Pitong Dalagita. "She preferred my cousins because they were full-blooded Lebanese. I was the one she would treat badly." "Imagine," she added, " she would make me wash big pots. The water there was almost boiling, very painful for my hands." She would also have to clean the carpet, with the aid of kerosene, the fumes of which made her dizzy. She was only able to get away from her grandmother at 12, when her Filipino mother took her back to the Philippines. For the fulll story, visit the PEP website at www.pep.ph. - GMANews.TV
