Lady Gaga arrives in PHL for concert

Amid protests by religious personalities and groups, controversial singer Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a. Lady Gaga arrived in the Philippines Saturday night for a two-day concert on May 21 and 22. The singer arrived at 7:30 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on a private plane, radio dzBB reported early Sunday. She is to perform at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Monday and Tuesday. Religious groups and personalities had opposed her concert, citing supposedly anti-Christian lyrics in her songs. On Saturday, a group of youths marched in Pasay City to protest the concert. They tried to get to the SM Mall of Asia area but were blocked by security personnel. For its part, the Pasay City government reminded organizers of the concert of the anti-obscenity “provisions” of its permit for the upcoming concert. Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto also formed an inspection team to “monitor” Lady Gaga’s concert. Calixto was quoted in the report as saying one of the provisions in the permit issued to the concert organizers was that there would be no obscenity, including nudity or anything offensive. — LBG, GMA News
