Dolphy had knack for laughter early in career, senior PAGASA forecaster recalls
Even when he was starting out in the 1940s, the late Comedy King Rodolfo "Dolphy" Vera Quizon already showed a great knack for making people laugh. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Elvie Enriquez said she witnessed this when Dolphy stayed at their house in Quezon province. "Hindi pa siya sikat noon, 'Golay' pa ang pangalan niya. Pero napakagaling niya magpatawa," Enriquez, a senior weather forecaster, said in an interview on dzBB radio Wednesday. She said Dolphy, who started his career in the 1940s, and his group had stayed at their house in Lopez town in Quezon when they were performing. "Nag-umpisa pa siya, pangalan niyan Golay. Natulog sa amin 'yan, kasama ang grupo-grupo, pumunta sa probinsya at nagpapalabas sila (He was starting his career as Golay. He and his fellow performers slept at our house in Quezon once)," she said. Dolphy died Tuesday night at the Makati Medical Center at age 83, two weeks before his 84th birthday. His remains were brought to the Heritage Park in Taguig City. Public viewing may start on Thursday. — LBG, GMA News
