Anti-Annabelle Rama bill? It was all a joke
By ANDREO CALONZO, GMA News
It was just a joke some people — and even a few media outlets — took too seriously. Last Saturday, Twitter was abuzz with talk about a House resolution supposedly filed by a Rep. Danilo Pasion seeking to ban mercurial talent manager and showbiz mom Annabelle Rama from attending any more wakes. GMA News Online has learned that the bill is a hoax and its "sponsor" a fictitious congressman.
The buzz on the purported “anti-Rama” bill began after the controversial Rama got involved in an altercation with entertainment reporter Chito Alcid during the wake of Dolphy on Friday night. She reportedly threatened Alcid, identified with one of her arch-enemies Amalia Fuentes, with a bread knife.
An entertainment news site even tweeted about the supposed “anti-Rama bill," the news of which spread via retweets.
It turned out, however, that the story originated from the satirical news website, So What’s News.
The website clearly states that it only aims “to inject humor into everyday news to provide respite to readers who have grown weary with mainstream news.”
For her part, House Secretary-General Marilyn Baura-Yap clarified that no person named Danilo Pasion is currently a member of the House of Representatives. She added that no such resolution has been filed against Rama.
“There is no such congressman and no such resolution. Our records stand as they are,” Yap said in a phone interview.
Some people on Twitter and Facebook, however, believed the supposed report, even welcoming the idea of a real anti-Rama bill.
“After the Dolphy stint, it’s just about time,” Twitter user Tobey Pace said.
“Mas madami pang batas na dapat asikasuhin. Ang babaw naman ng batas na ito,” Facebook user Arminda Magno, for her part, said.
Besides, even without a real anti-Rama bill, there are enough laws to protect mourners from knife-wielding fellow mourners. — RSJ/HS, GMA News
