Sting, Elton John arrive for weekend concerts
Renowned international musicians Sting and Sir Elton John arrived in the country early Saturday for separate concerts during the weekend. Sting, Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, arrived in the country before dawn Saturday in time for his one-night concert on Sunday, according to a report on "Balitanghali." Fans showed up at the airport and gave him a warm welcome, with Sting returning the favor by gamely posing for photos with some of them, the report said. The report said Sir Elton John is also in the country for his concert for Saturday night, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Sting was initially scheduled to perform at the Mall of Asia arena in Pasay City but changed the venue to the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Last Oct. 30, Sting announced his “Back to Bass” concert was moved to Araneta Coliseum. A report on PEP.ph said the sudden switch of venues was a decision of Sting's camp, after receiving a letter of plea from a certain Cheryl L. Daytec-Yangot. Daytec-Yangot was linked to Project Save 182, an environmentalist group that opposed the removal of 182 trees on a Baguio City hill to give way for the expansion of SM City Baguio mall, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
