Pepe Pimentel found dead in QC home
(Updated 1:13 p.m.) - Television icon Pepe Pimentel died in his home Thursday in Barangay Laging Handa in Quezon City, GMA News' Balitanghali reported.
Pimentel slipped in his bathroom, where he was found unconscious by his wife, according to Barangay Secretary Ofelia Daduya, the report said.
Pimentel, 83, was a host on the noontime variety show "Student Canteen" and the game show "Kwarta o Kahon" which aired from 1962-2000.
He appeared in movies such as "Ang Babaeng Isputnik" in 1963 and "I Won, I Won: Ang S'werte Nga Naman" in 1985.
Apart from his roles in television and film, Pimentel was also a product endorser, and was famous for his "biyenan jokes."
Pimentel also served as Barangay Captain of Barangay Laging Handa in Quezon City.
Pimentel's neighbor, Brgy. Kagawad Carlos Ramos, had seen Pimentel earlier Thursday morning and said the former game show host was cleaning the sidewalk and removing political advertisements from posts, the Balitanghali report said.
Pimentel would often be seen cleaning around the barangay. "This man is an inspiration to me," one barangay resident said on her blog last year after seeing Pimentel removing paper ads on light posts. —Carmela G. Lapeña/KG, GMA News
