Chiz: Heart's parents' complaints are baseless
Re-electionist Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Monday said plans of his girlfriend's parents to file criminal and civil charges against him were baseless.
"Wala naman sigurong basehan," Escudero told reporters during the taping of Paninindigan, the GMA News and Public Affairs Senatorial Forum.
On Thursday last week, the parents of Escudero's girlfriend, actress Heart Evangelista, said they plan to file criminal and civil charges against him. While acknowledging the Evangelista's right to do so, Escudero claimed that they were the ones who had hurt him. "Karapatan nila 'yun... Ako ang tinawag na kung anu-anong pangalan, wala akong tinawag na pangalan laban sa kanila. Ako ang pinaratangan ng kung ano-ano," he said.
Escudero earlier called on Evangelista's parents to stop attacking him, saying the issue was affecting other people, including his children with his former wife Christine Elizabeth Flores. The issue began when Evangelista's parents publicly appealed to Escudero to leave their daughter alone, claiming the re-electionist senator was disrespectful toward them.
Asked if the issue affected his poll ranking, Escudero just replied that his camp would have to work harder in order to reveal the truth. "Kailangan namin magtrabaho pa, mag imbestiga para lumabas ang katotohanan at mapatunayan na itong mga panlalait at paninira ay hindi totoo," he said.
According to PR specialist Reli German, the accusations made by Evangelista's parents could cause Escudero to slide down one or two notches.
“Malapit sa puso ng mga Pilipino ang mga magulang at nakatatanda. Kapag may ginawa kang masama sa mga sektor na ito, malaking bagay para sa mga Pinoy. Mawawalan ng respeto ang mga tao sa iyo,” German said in a previous report.
On Sunday, Heart defended Chiz, saying she could not recall an incident where he disrespected her parents. She also denied their claims that Escudero had a drinking problem.
"That is a lie at lahat ng... ayaw kong sabihing it's a lie kasi ayaw kong insultuhin sila, ang hirap talaga ng posisyon ko ngayon," she said on H.O.T. TV on Sunday.
The actress pleaded with her parents to end the issue and allow her to learn on her own. "Sana matapos na 'to kasi wala naman din akong ginagawang mali. Kung may ginagawa akong mali, I'm sorry. Hayaan niyo akong matuto on my own." she said tearfully. — Carmela G. Lapeña/RSJ, GMA News
