Directors Lav Diaz, Adolfo Alix Jr to screen movies at Cannes 2013
The official Twitter account of the Festival de Cannes 2013 has confirmed that two Pinoy directors will be showing their films under the “Un Certain Regard” category.
Directors Lav Diaz and Adolfo Alix, Jr will screen their movies “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” and “Death March” respectively.
Lav Diaz is the internationally acclaimed filmmaker behind “Batang West Side” and “Ebolusyon ng Isang Pamilyang Pilipino”, marked by a lengthy running time of narrative.
Adolfo Alix, Jr is the scriptwriter of modern clasics “Kahapon, May Dalawang Bata”, “Mga Mumunting Tinig” and the Philippines' official submission to the American Academy Awards' (Oscars) Best Foreign Language Film category for 2006, “Donsol”
According to the Festival's official website, director Sofia Coppola's newest movie starring Emma Watson “The Bling Ring” is also screening under the same category, along with James Franco's “As I Lay Dying.”
Founded in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious, invitation-only film festivals in the world. It is held annually at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
This year's festival will take place from May 15 to May 26, 2013, to be opened by Baz Luhrmann “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo Di Caprio. The President of the 2013 jury is American director Steven Spielberg. – KDM, GMA News
