Fast6's Luke Evans and Gina Carano on making movies, fun in the Philippines

Hollywood stars Luke Evans and Gina Carano shared with the media how they want fans to remember their characters in "Fast and Furious 6," the latest film in the "The Fast and the Furious" (now minus definite articles) franchise. Evans, who plays antagonist Owen Shaw, wants to be remembered as the "good" bad guy. "I'd like them to sort of enjoy the bad guy and sort of appreciate how bad he is and that's about it," Evans said during the media roundtable discussion last Thursday. "He's a bad guy at the end of the day so he can't be liked too much. But I think it would be nice for people to go, 'Well, as bad guys go, he was a good one,'" he added. Furthermore, Carano, who's playing the role of Riley, hopes that the people will feel her presence in the film.

Usually cast as a tough, "stone-faced" woman, Gina Carano hopes for the chance to stretch her acting range. "I wanna smile, I wanna cry."
According to Carano, "I hope that they feel my presence. It's not a good feeling being the bad guy, you know being the person that turns and especially for me like, 'Oh they're gonna hate me!'" "That's not a good feeling but at the same time if I made an impact of some sort and people are like shocked, I think if I had a presence at all, I think that's a good sign for a second movie," she added. Gina Carano, strong woman Carano, who is also a mixed martial arts fighter, often plays strong women who can literally kick ass. "Everybody wants to give me the job of the cop, or the stone-faced female lead. I kind of would like to figure out because that's not like me. I wanna smile, I wanna cry, I wanna fight, I wanna be physical, I wanna do anything," she said. "I have these two different sides of me, very physical and very emotional. I think that these roles of the strong women who are just cold, there's a place for that but I wanna figure out how to mesh them. When I I read these scripts, I know that people haven't got hold of that yet," she added. No 'Fast and Furious' musical for Luke Evans When asked if he would play a character in a "Fast and Furious Musical," Evans immediately answered a strong "no." Evans, who played Chris in the musical "Miss Saigon" on the UK stage, said there's a difference in terms of portraying a character on stage and on film. According to him, "It was such a fast process for me. I sort of didn't have a film background training when I got 'Clash of the Titans,' which was my first film. So, I had to just forget that it was a movie, and I just had to look at the fact that it was a scene between me and somebody else."
A stage veteran, Luke Evans has done 19 films in the last five years. A Fast6 musical is likely not in the cards, though.
"And just play it honestly and truthfully and you know, the thing about theater is that you have to play slightly larger...When I realized very quickly is a small amount plus really big screen, you pick up very quickly on how to play it [you have to learn fast]." "It happened really fast, only five years did I do my first movie and now, I'm in my 19th film." Love for the Philippines Both actors had good things to say about their stay in the Philippines. "I know quite a bit about the Philippines because I have lots of friends from the Philippines. I did a musical, Miss Saigon and I did it in UK [United Kingdom]. So, a lot of the cast were Filipino," said Evans. "Filipinos sing. Everybody sings here, which I think is incredible. Everybody is so talented. I spent a whole year here and they became some of my closest friends. I came here 10 years ago, and came to Manila and my friends took me to Boracay and Mt. Mayon," said Evans. Carano said that she loved her stay in the Philippines, despite their busy schedule. "I love it...I hope I can come back and check out the beaches and the culture. You guys like to have a good time here, I think. That's what you're known for," she said. Aside from Evans and Carano, movie stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez also came to the Philippines to promote the movie. — BM, GMA News
