Jaime Fabregas on infidelity: 'Nobody has a monopoly on right or wrong'

The first two episodes of Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real have already been aired. The intriguing title in itself has sparked interest among viewers.

Infidelity is one of the most controversial themes being explored by the said drama series, top-billed by Dingdong Dantes as Anthony. He is joined by Lovi Poe as Shiela and Ms. Maricel Soriano as Millet, his two wives.

GMANetwork.com sat down on a heart-to-heart interview with seasoned actor, Jaime Fabregas who plays Jun Real, the father of Anthony in the series.

We asked him about his insights on the topic of infidelity and its relevance to the present society. He said, “Infidelity in any word is infidelity. I suppose nagkaroon ng trend to talk about it, which is I think good also because this is a trait of the Pinoy actually na matagal nang nandiyan pero minsan ay kinakalimutan lang natin.”

“Alam natin na marami sa mga kalalakihang Pinoy ay may tinatawag na 2nd families and sometimes, third families. As a matter of fact, sometimes, sa kultura natin ay hinahangaan pa ‘yung mga taong ganyan. Basically, iyon ang macho culture ng Pinoy na sumusukat sa pagkalalaki ng isang tao,” he added.

He deemed it a courageous move for the series to delve into a different aspect of infidelity that other teleseryes may not have explored yet.

He said, “Basically, ang pagkakaiba nito is the plot, where Anthony will be married to two women. Wala talagang number two or three.”

For Mr. Fabregas, Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real is a social commentary of some sort, especially on the current moral standards we have. If second wives and illegitimate children were looked down upon before, he thinks that there is more acceptance now because people are more open-minded now.

“There are changes in society and changes in how people feel, but the question is, does morality change over time or is it the same? ‘Yun ‘yung mga tanong na ibinabato ng Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real,” he satated.

He added, “Personally, I think that nobody has a monopoly on right or wrong. Ang hirap i-judge ang other people because I really don’t know. Baka 10 years from now, mag-iba ang isip ko.”

Ultimately, according to Mr. Fabregas, watching the series would help men and women reflect on their relationship choices.

“At the end of the day, how the story unfolds could be the most interesting part. May mga magagandang aral na makukuha and I’m sure it will become a topic of conversation,” he stated. -- GMANetwork.com
