PhilPop 2014: 'Torpe', 'Babalikan Mo Rin Ako' each garner over 50K views on YouTube


“Torpe”, newbie songwriter Daryl Ong's entry in the third Philippine Popular Music Festival, leads as of early Saturday morning in terms of combined total YouTube views for songs that made it to the Final 12 of PhilPop 2014.
 
Ong's first-ever competition piece garnered 57,513 views on YouTube early morning of July 26.

The grand winner will be revealed in a finals night presentation Saturday evening at the Meralco Theater. The program will be streamed lived on Spinnr.ph 
 
“Torpe” is interpreted by GMA Network's Sunday All-Stars artist Kris Lawrence and drew 46,317 YouTube views while the official music video got 11,196 views.

"I still hear the top 12 songs from last year a lot. I'm happy that this songwriting route presented itself. Doon pala magkakaraon ng chance for my songs to be heard," Ong said in a post on the PhilPop 2014 website.

With a total of 56,120 views and ranking next to Ong's piece,  is “Babalikan Mo Rin Ako” composed by Soc Villanueva and interpreted by Nikki Gil.
 
The second tier of PhilPop 2014 finalists in terms of YouTube views are “Qrush On You” by Q York, James Palma, and Cedric Bondoc, and “No Girlfriend Since Break” by Davey Langit.
 
Ronaldo “Toto” Sorioso's “Awit Mo'y Nandito Pa” leads the rest of the finalists at 39,892 combined YouTube views of the official lyric video and official music video. 


 

Sorioso's other PhilPop 2014 finalist is "Langit Umaawit", which was interpreted by Kapuso actor Tom Rodriguez, drew 39,892 views. 

Tom Rodriguez said in an interview with GMA News Online that he was initially "really scared" to interpret the competition piece, but he liked the song so much that he wanted to try it. He said it helped that Sorioso was there to help him through the process.


 
 
Another GMA Network Sunday All-Stars artist, Kyla, interpreted “Salbabida”, a composition of veteran songwriter Jungee Marcelo. “Salbabida” garnered 26,043 views. Kyla said the inspirational appeal of the song will resound with the Filipino audience.


 
 
English-worded “The Only One” (Venelyn “Popsie” San Pedro) and “Song On A Broken String” (Maria Cecilia Bocobo and Isaac Joseph Garcia) bring up the rear with just over 20,000 YouTube views each.  — Earl Victor L. Rosero, GMA News
