Actress Angel Locsin, who played "Darna in a television program, is the new poster girl for Gabriela Women's Party. This was revealed by Gabriela on Monday as it announced the launching of its new television ad. âMay Gabriela sa bawat isa sa atin. Nagmamahal, naghihirap, dinadahas, hinahangaan, ginigipit ngunit lumalaban. Gabriela ka, lumaban ka. Iboto ang Gabriela Women's Party," Locsin says in her endorsement of the party-list group. The 15-second plug was created by noted director Carlitos Siguion-Reyna. Incidentally, Locsin plays the role of "Gabriela" in the GMA-7's action-adventure series called "Asian treasures." She also played the role of "Darna" in another show aired in the same station. âWe are thankful that Gabrielaâs fight for womenâs rights meets with Angelâs advocacy for womenâs empowerment, the reason why Angel is endorsing us," said Gabriela Representative Liza Maza in a statement. The television ad was launched Monday morning and will be broadcasted on national television next week. The ad can also be seen and downloaded at
www.youtube.com/gabrielaparty . Maza said this is part of the partyâs efforts to heighten its campaign for its reelection bid in the May 14 2007 elections. âAlthough we are confident that women will support us this coming May, we are using various forms of media to reach out to more women to support Gabrielaâs advocacy." Gabriela Womenâs Party will also be launching their webpage which will feature, among others, their partyâs programs and advocacy as well as their nomineesâ profile. âOur first three nominees â Liza Maza, Luz Ilagan and Flora Belinan â have a long history of fighting for the cause of women and we are proud of them. We see no reason why we should hide them," said Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Gabriela Womenâs Party. Palabayâs statement takes a shot at what they call âfake party lists"which their group revealed as being supported by Malacañang as part of the current administrationâs plan to disenfranchise opposition. Palabay added that they will also make available online the âconfidential document" from the Office of External Affairs of Malacañang revealing the the administrationâs plan to edge out progressive party lists like Gabriela Womenâs Party by fielding and supporting pro-administration party lists such as Babae Para sa Kaunlaran (Babae Ka), Agbiag Timpuyog Ilocano, League of Youth for Peace and Development (LYPAD) and Kalahi Advocates for Overseas Filipinos. âThe Arroyo administrationâs efforts to disenfranchise us only compels us to heighten our fight. As the endorsement goes, âGabriela ka, lumaban kaâ," conluded Maza. -
