'Fashion Pulis' blogger released, will face Deniece Cornejo's libel complaint

Blogger Michael Sy Lim, who goes by the moniker "Fashion Pulis," was arrested on Tuesday over a libel case that the camp of Deniece Cornejo filed. On Wednesday, Lim's legal counsel Atty. Regie Tongol said his client has been released.

Tongol said Lim is determined to face the libel suit filed against him.

“His detention was an unfortunate result of a loophole in our criminal justice system, which was taken advantage by some as a means to an end,” Lim's lawyer said.

The case was filed following Lim's allegedly unauthorized publication of Cornejo's medical records on his blog-- a violation of Section IV-c (4) of the Republic Act 10175, which refers to libel "committed through a computer system or any other similar means which may be devised in the future."

Lim's camp claimed that they have not yet been given the chance to see Cornejo's complaint and that they were deliberately deprived of the right to participate in the preliminary investigation stage.

Tongol reiterated, “Any talks or insinuation of a possible settlement is still premature as of this time.”

He said they will file appropriate motions and petitions to protect Lim's constitutional rights to “due process and press freedom.”

Prior to his release, Lim took his sentiments to Twitter and said, “Sad how people abuse libel (laws) to curtail press freedom.”  — Bianca Rose Dabu/ELR, GMA News
